The state’s attorney general is concerned about voter suppression.
Contenders for the nominations of both political parties will hold their nominating primaries on Tuesday in New Hampshire. Unlike the caucus system held in Iowa, the citizens of New Hampshire cast ballots.
Former President Donald Trump, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are on the GOP ballot. The Democrat candidates are Representative Dean Phillips of Minnesota and self-help writer Marianne Williamson. President Joe Biden is not on the ballot but voters can write in his name.
The Attorney General of New Hampshire, John Formella, has issued a cease and desist order to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) responding to allegations that the state’s voter suppression laws are being violated. Charges have been leveled that the DNC ordered members of its party in New Hampshire to “educate the public” about their “meaningless” primary. The cease and desist order said the committee’s plan was illegal voter suppression, in violation of the state’s voting rights law.
“Telling any person qualified to register to vote or vote in New Hampshire that the January 23, 2024, New Hampshire democratic President Primary Election is ‘meaningless’… constitutes an attempt to prevent or deter New Hampshire voters from participating [in the primary]… in violation of RSA 659.40 III,” the cease and desist letter said.
